If you’re as cruise-obsessed as I am, you’ll understand the thrill of being onboard a brand-new ship! I recently had the incredible opportunity to sail aboard Sun Princess on her North American premiere voyage, departing from Fort Lauderdale for a 3-night journey to Nassau, Bahamas. With industry insiders and press onboard, it was the perfect chance to explore all the ship has to offer and snap some fantastic photos and videos that I can’t wait to share!

First Impressions: A Modern, Sleek Beauty
As soon as I stepped aboard Sun Princess, I was blown away by her sleek and modern design. With its glassy exteriors, open spaces, and beautiful ocean views, this ship is all about bringing the outside in. The Piazza—a striking multi-level atrium—immediately caught my eye. It’s the heart of the ship, a buzzing space perfect for people-watching or grabbing a drink.
If you’re a first-time cruiser on this ship, I highly recommend starting your exploration here. Grab a seat at the bar and soak in the ambiance! You’ll find everything from live music performances to pop-up events happening throughout the day.
Finding the Best Views: Wakeview Pool
Now, let me share one of the hidden gems onboard: the Wakeview Pool. If you want to unwind with stunning aft views, this is the place to be. It’s a bit of a mission to find if you’re unfamiliar with the layout, so here’s my tip: Make your way to Deck 9 aft, pass by the outdoor areas of The Eatery and Americana Diner, head down the steps, and you’ll discover it—a stunning infinity-style pool offering breathtaking views of the ship's wake. Perfect for sunset!
Whether you’re relaxing in one of the loungers or dipping your toes in the water, this spot feels like a luxurious escape. Plus, it’s not as crowded as the main pools, so if you're after some peace and quiet, this is it.
Stateroom Life: Space, Comfort & Views
I had the pleasure of staying in a Cabana Mini Suite on this sailing, and it’s a total game-changer. The standout feature? The double balcony! The internal balcony offers a cosy spot with a sofa and a second TV, perfect for families or couples who have differing Netflix tastes. It’s an amazing extra space for relaxing.
What really makes it special, though, is the bi-fold door leading to the outside balcony. This creates that beautiful indoor-outdoor flow that we Kiwis love so much, extending the space and making it ideal for socialising with new-found friends while soaking up those ocean views.

Dining Delights: Feast Your Eyes (and Tastebuds)
When it comes to dining aboard Sun Princess, there’s a great mix of options to suit every craving. One of the highlights of dining aboard Sun Princess is the three-level main dining room, featuring breathtaking ocean views at the rear of the ship.
The Eatery offers a buffet-style experience with a variety of international dishes, and it features a unique cabinet filled with Grab & Go boxes. These are perfect for grabbing a bite to enjoy later in your stateroom (just be sure to pop them in your fridge—not your daypack for shore excursions!).

For those traveling on Princess Plus fares, you’ll be pleased to know that two casual dining options are included: Alfredo’s Pizzeria (super popular!), serving up delicious, made-to-order pizzas, and O’Malley’s, a cosy spot for pub-style fare. Both are great choices for a laid-back meal.
And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, Coffee & Cones is your go-to for treats. Their incredible sundaes are a premium dessert option but included in the Princess Plus package, making them even more tempting after a day of exploring the ship.

While I didn’t get the chance to experience them firsthand, there are also specialty dining options available onboard at a surcharge, offering even more culinary experiences for those looking to indulge a little further.

The Dome: The Ultimate Entertainment Space
New to Princess, The Dome is a breathtaking multi-level space with a striking glass roof. By day, it’s an ideal spot to unwind—whether you’re lounging on the comfortable sunbeds, enjoying the serene ambiance, or catching some live music. With its stunning sky views pouring in through the dome, it feels like a peaceful retreat at sea.
At night, The Dome transforms into an intimate venue for shows and entertainment. We had the chance to watch Art Beat, a visual symphony that truly captivated the audience. It’s a smaller, more intimate setting compared to the larger venues on board, making it feel special and exclusive. If you’re looking for a unique entertainment experience at sea, this is the place to be.
Final Thoughts: Will You Sail on Sun Princess?
After three days of exploring this stunning new ship, I can confidently say Sun Princess is ready to impress! Whether you’re drawn in by her modern design, diverse dining options, or stunning spaces like The Dome and Wakeview Pool, this ship has something for every type of cruiser.
